Mission RCMP seeking stolen monastery donation box suspect

Police in the Fraser Valley are asking for the public’s help identifying an alleged thief — pictured stealing from a monastery and reported stealing from an elderly woman earlier this month.

The Mission RCMP says officers were called to the Little Flower Monastery in Deroche on Sept. 2.

Two suspects, a man and a woman, reportedly arrived at the monastery in a grey Pontiac Sunfire, and milled around its lobby for 15 minutes. That’s when the man allegedly stuffed a donation box into a plastic garbage bag, and the pair left.

CCTV images from the scene show a man carrying the bagged box towards the door.

Three days later, police believe the same man burgled a seniors’ housing complex in Mission. He allegedly approached an 83-year-old woman, claiming to need to enter her suite to do some work.

“She let him inside, then when he left a short time later, she noticed that her wallet was gone,” Mounties explained Thursday.

He was not seen with the woman who joined him at the monastery.

Police have released the photos of the two suspects, asking anyone who recognizes them to call the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 2025-10979.
