OMNI News Nominated for Jack Webster Award

OMNI News journalists have been nominated for a 2025 Jack Webster Award for their coverage of the aftermath of the Lapu-Lapu Day Block Party attack in Vancouver.
Arvin Joaquin, Rhea Santos, Theresa Barrera, and Pat Fernandez from OMNI News: Filipino Edition are nominated for Excellence in Multilingual Journalism for the entry “A Day After the Lapu-Lapu Day Tragedy in B.C.,” a series of reports on OMNI News: Filipino’s coverage on the aftermath of the street party attack in April.
The coverage, which aired on April 27, 2025, on OMNI Television, shared facts and gathered Filipino voices, reported by a team who were also part of the community deeply impacted by one of the darkest moments in Vancouver’s history.
According to the Jack Webster Foundation’s news release announcing the nominations, the 2025 finalists were chosen by the Webster Awards jury, all members who are independent of the Jack Webster Foundation and its board.

Alongside Joaquin, Santos, Barrera, and Fernandez, Rob Abel, Kristin Johnson, Justin Borges, and Hector Docto are also named as part of OMNI’s nomination. OMNI Television is the sister station of CityNews.
The Jack Webster Award honours the best in British Columbia journalism.
Winners will be announced at the Webster Awards event on November 3.
