They found an injured 21-year-old Coquitlam man, who was transported to hospital, where he later died.

Two suspects were seen running away from the scene.

In an update this week, The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says police arrested a 24-year-old Coquitlam man on Friday.

The BC Prosecution Service charged the man with one count of first-degree murder.

“This was a brazen shooting near a busy intersection in Coquitlam at a time when there had been an uptick in shootings in the city,” said IHIT, referencing the fact that the Jan. 6, 2024 shooting followed two others in Coquitlam on the two previous days.

Sgt. Freda Fong says IHIT continues to fine tune its approach to tackling gang violence.

“Any time organized criminals operate and bring their violence to communities, it demonstrates their disregard for the safety of others,” said Fong.
