Victim of fatal shooting at Burnaby’s Metrotown identified

One man is dead after a shooting in Burnaby Wednesday evening. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has released the victim's identity in an effort to advance the investigation. Monika Gul has more.

The victim of a fatal shooting in the Metrotown area Wednesday evening has been identified.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says nineteen-year-old Connor Sheriff died after shots were fired near McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street around 6:30 p.m.



IHIT says it has released his identity in an effort to advance the investigation.

“This was a targeted and brazen shooting in a high-traffic area,” said Sgt. Freda Fong.

“Those involved displayed a complete disregard for public safety.”

Sheriff was known to police and is believed to be connected to the drug trade.

“When police arrived on scene, they located a male victim. Despite life-saving efforts, the man did not survive,” IHIT described.

Police later discovered a vehicle on fire nearby, north of Central Park, but are unsure if it was linked to the shooting.

As of Thursday morning, police still had the parking lot on Kingsborough Street blocked off.

IHIT says investigators believe there is no further risk to the public.
