Suspected dollar-store shoplifter arrested after pulling hypodermic needle on staff

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it has arrested a man who allegedly brandished a hypodermic needle at staff at a downtown dollar store.

Officers were called to the Dollarama near Granville and West Pender around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Police say the suspect pulled out the needle after staff confronted him and asked him to leave the store.

The suspect also allegedly pushed a worker, the VPD says.

He was arrested at the scene and taken to jail.

31-year-old Emaan Mirhashemi has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
