On Friday, the RCMP announced that three foreign nationals are facing charges after an investigation by the provincial task force on extortion.
The charges relate to two extortion incidents that took place at the same house in Surrey in November 2025. One of the charged suspects is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant and wanted by the Canada Border Services Agency on an immigration warrant.
Earlier in the week, Eby also took aim at the Senate over proposed changes to legislation meant to stop extortion suspects from making asylum claims to avoid deportation.
A Senate social affairs committee recommended removing or significantly amending immigration-related sections of Bill C-12, warning of potential human rights violations, a lack of fairness for vulnerable people, and giving the federal government broad immigration powers with limited oversight.
Eby criticized the consideration of those changes and said the focus should be on strengthening the bill, not weakening it.
The B.C. government has not yet confirmed the details of Monday’s announcement.
