Residential gas customers will see a tiny dip in their home energy bills, starting April 1, FortisBC says.
The company says the BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) — the government agency that regulates energy utilities in the province — has approved a reduction of about 25 per cent in the cost of gas.
“The decrease is largely due to the warmer-than-normal weather experienced in recent months across the Pacific Northwest region,” it said.
The average residential gas customer can expect to see their bill drop by about $4.15, but individual use will vary.
Rates will be reviewed again in June, the company says. FortisBC says it buys gas at market-based prices, which are influenced by such factors as supply and demand, economic conditions, and weather. For that reason, it is difficult to say what the price could be going forward, a spokesperson for the company told 1130 NewsRadio.
