Truck driver turns self in to police after striking Langley overpass, leaving

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) is seeking witnesses after a driver struck a Langley overpass Thursday and left the scene.

In a statement released around 9 a.m. Friday, the BCHP detailed the crash, asking the public for help identifying the driver.

By 9:30 a.m., Mounties said the driver had come forward.

“The truck driver did not wait for police at the scene, which is the ideal, but subsequently reached out to police and is cooperating,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

Police say the driver was in a flat deck commercial truck with a crane boom, heading east on Highway 1 just before 3 p.m., when they struck the CP Rail overpass between Glover Road and 232 Street.

The driver reportedly stopped at the scene, but only briefly.

“BC Highway Patrol continues to investigate the collision and will work with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) to follow up on options for enforcement,” said McLaughlin.

Police are appealing to witnesses or anyone with dashcam video of the incident to contact the BCHP Burnaby office at 604-526-9744 and quote file (1003) 2026-854.

McLaughlin says the B.C. Ministry of Transportation was called to scene to assess the damage.

Not including Thursday’s, the ministry has recorded three overpass strikes on B.C. highways in 2026.

Earlier this month, the ministry announced starting construction on an overheight-detection system (OHDS) at the No. 3 Road overpass along Highway 1 near Chilliwack.
