IHIT releases name of victim in weekend homicide in Surrey

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has released the name of the victim in a homicide that took place over the weekend in Surrey.

“In an effort to further the investigation, IHIT is identifying the deceased as 45-year-old Zachery Rider of the Lower Mainland area,” IHIT said Monday.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers were called to the area of Foxglove Drive and 98th Avenue around 11:15 a.m. Saturday to assist BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) and Surrey Fire with an unresponsive man.

A suspect was initially taken into custody but has now been released without charge after investigators looked into his involvement in the incident.

“A number of witness interviews are ongoing as we establish the deceased’s background and a timeline of his arrival to the area,” said IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong.

“Anyone who had recent contact with Mr. Rider is urged to contact IHIT right away.”

The incident appears to be isolated with no ongoing risk to the public, police say.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
