Head-on collision caused by impaired driver in Lake Country

Lake Country RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Glenmore Road and Shanks Road on June 16, around 9 p.m.

When officers arrived, they determined that a southbound SUV didn’t properly make a turn around a curve on Glenmore Road, causing the SUV to cross into the oncoming lane and colliding head-on with a car.

Both cars were damaged, leaving them undriveable.

Drivers for both the SUV and car stayed on scene.

According to police, the driver of the SUV had told witnesses that they might be impaired.

The witnesses told officers about what the SUV driver said and they started an impaired driving investigation.

The driver provided a roadside breath sample that confirmed alcohol impairment.

The driver had their licence suspended for 90 days and their car was impounded for 30 days.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The SUV driver was transported to hospital by ambulance for assessment.

“It is disappointing to see this as it is the second head-on collision in just three weeks involving alcohol in our community,” said Staff Sgt. Jon Collins, Lake Country Detachment Commander.

“Our officers remove hundreds of impaired drivers from the road every year and will continue to actively target this dangerous and reckless behaviour. Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious injury and death on our roads, and it is entirely preventable”
