Second-degree murder charge for Vanderhoof incident: RCMP

After a days-long investigation into a motor vehicle incident in Vanderhoof, a 39-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder.

Around 1 p.m. on July 9, Vanderhoof RCMP were called to a motor vehicle incident near Bublitz Road and Loop Road.

Police say they found one man dead at the scene and a suspect was arrested soon after.

The North District Major Crime Unit (NDMCU) took over the investigation.

After investigating the circumstances around the incident, including interviewing witnesses and available information, NDMCU determined the death of the 38-year-old man was worthy of a second-degree murder charge.

The accused, a resident of Vanderhoof, was charged on July 10, according to the RCMP.

NDMCU believe this is an isolated incident where the suspect and victim knew each other.

The accused is in custody and will remain there until his next court appearance, police say.

“Police are still looking to speak with anyone that may have dash camera footage or video surveillance that captured the incident. You can contact our Major Crime Unit by calling 604-355-1867,” states Cpl. Ryan Buchanan of the Major Crime Unit.

The investigation is now closed and the matter is before the courts.
