WestJet crew strike cancels 88 flights at YVR

A labour dispute involving more than 4,400 WestJet cabin crew members has led to the cancellation of 88 flights at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

WestJet has temporarily suspended its mainline operations as the airline and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) remain at odds in contract negotiations.

According to Chloe Reynaud, a communications specialist with the Vancouver Airport Authority, flights operated by WestJet Encore using Q400 aircraft have not been affected by the labour disruption.

The 88 cancelled flights account for approximately 10 per cent of YVR’s scheduled daily operations.

Reynaud said the airport has increased staffing levels within the terminal to assist passengers impacted by the cancellations and provide additional support during the disruption.

Passengers are encouraged to check directly with WestJet for the latest information on their flight status before heading to the airport.
