Fatal house fire in Chilliwack claims 1 life

A blaze broke out at a home on Young Road in Chilliwack on Friday afternoon, leaving one person dead, Chilliwack Fire Department confirms.
Fire crews were called to the 9800 block of the street around 2:15 p.m. When they arrived, they learned that one person may still be inside the home.
“Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and located an individual inside the home,” the Chilliwack Fire Department said in a news release Friday night.
“The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
The house had extensive fire, smoke and water damage which prevented the other residents from being able to return on Friday night, said fire crews.
The department said the origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
