Michael Le sentenced to 12 years for Surrey Six conspiracy

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A founder of the Red Scorpions gang will serve a maximum of just over three more years in prison for his role in the Surrey Six murders.

Michael Le’s sentence comes after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder last month.

Defense and Crown both requested a 12-year sentence, minus credit for time already served.

In a statement of facts approved by both sides the court heard that Le discussed killing a rival drug dealer. The judge was told Le initially opposed the plot but agreed to it later.

He was not there for the killings, which turned into one of the most horrible criminal acts ever in BC, as witnesses were also murdered.

Six bodies were found in October 2007 in a highrise condominium in Surrey.

Eileen Mohan, the mother of one of the innocent bystanders killed in the shooting, says she’s now going to look at the bigger picture and that’s the fact that there are still others on trial. “My son’s innocent life was taken and in order to get justice for everybody involved I have to accept these consequences.”

When asked if she accepts Le’s apology, Mohan wouldn’t respond.

Defence lawyer Chris Johnson says his client is now looking to change his life. “He wants to try and make amends, he wants to get a legitimate job and go into business.”

Johnson says he’s confident his client is truly remorseful. “I think anyone finding himself in that situation would be remorseful, but I think that the fact he has actually plead guilty and admitted his responsibility and level of involvement, and you heard what he read out in court, I found it quite compelling.”

The trial for two other men is scheduled to resume in the new year.
