‘Pink’ ribbon may have negative impact, study finds

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Breast cancer groups are wondering if it’s time to rethink the ‘Think Pink’ campaign.

The Breast Cancer Society of Canada is one of those groups; it’s pondering its use of pink, wondering if the colour has been overused as one to represent breast cancer research. News1130 took to the streets, finding out what what people think:

“Breast cancer, men get as well,” says one woman. “So why would it be something that’s just associated with women?”

But another woman says the ‘Think Pink’ campaign is not about the colour — it’s about the cause “Just like a yellow ribbon would be for remembering the soldiers — it has an awareness.”

A new Norwegian campaign found that using the colour pink may actually make women less likely to donate money because they have a hard time connecting something so deadly to a pretty, feminine colour.
