VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Some post-secondary schools are considering changes to their admissions processes, should the teachers strike continue into next month.
SFU says it’s not sitting around and waiting for the dispute to be over. Registrar Louise Legris says they’re in talks right now to figure out how to handle admissions, which begin October 1st — a date that won’t change.
She says if they have to, they will look at Grade 11 marks.
“We are fully aware that we will need to, should the strike continue into October. I mean, we have to make changes because we don’t want to disadvantage students that is beyond their control,” explains Legris.
As students wait to get back to class, she tells us many of them of have taken the opportunity to take a tour of the campus.
“While students aren’t in schools, then start looking at universities now that you have the time and make an informed choice about where you’d like to go next year,” she advises students in their final year.
UBC says it will base 2015 admissions on Grade 12 marks available as of March 2015; otherwise it’s business as usual for them, as applications are already being looked at. The university says if some Grade 12 marks are not available by next March, then they will look at Grade 11 marks.
Meantime, universities in Ontario are keeping an eye on the strike, as some BC students look to head east after high school.
