Family-oriented New Year’s Eve events

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There are tons of events happening around town for you and the little ones to ring in 2012!
Vancouver
Free skating Robson Square: The venue will play host to a free party that includes free ice skating, live music, stilt walkers and a magician’s show. There will be an early New Year’s Eve countdown at 8 p.m. with free glow sticks and noisemakers for the little ones.
Sleepover at the Vancouver Aquarium: There’s a special New Year’s Eve event that includes spending a night with the belugas.
Bright Nights at Stanley Park: It is one of the top holiday attractions of the city and it’s perfect for young kids. Bright Nights is open until 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
Family First Night at Mount Seymour: The family-oriented festivities take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with an early countdown at 9 p.m. Events include family tubing or tobogganing, free smores and apple cider. You also get sparklers, blow horns and party favours.
Whistler’s First Night 2012: It is the place to be in Whistler! First Night is a 100 per cent alcohol-free party that happens at Whistler Village Square with live music, comedians and fireworks. The countdown for the younger crowd starts at 9:30 p.m.
English Bay Polar Bear Swim: Strip down and hop in! It starts at 2:30 p.m. on January 1st down at English Bay.
Rockin’ the Plaza of Nations: There will be fireworks starting at midnight and you can enjoy them from the Plaza of Nations.
Surrey
Ice Palace: Take the kiddies to the Winter Ice Palace at Cloverdale Arena. It’s open until January 2nd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
White Rock
Skating in the Rock: White Rock’s Centennial Arena is open today until 2:30 p.m., if you’re looking for an early afternoon treat for you and the kids before you ring in the New Year.
Delta
Polar Bear Swim: At the Boundary Bay Regional Park on January 1st from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. There will be music and lots of family entertainment
Family skate: Head to the South Delta Recreation Centre for a skating, crafts, treats and wicker New Year’s Eve tunes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
New Year’s skate: Lace em’ up at the Ladner Leisure Centre, there’s a free New Year’s Day skate from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. You are also encouraged to take a donation for the food bank.
Hit the ice: Check it out at the Sungod Recreation Centre. Things get underway at 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Food bank donations are also being collected.
Some rec fun: There’s a free skate at the South Delta Recreation Centre on New Year’s from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Food Bank donations being collected there.
Port Coquitlam
Skate in PoCo: Check it out at the Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. It’s an early afternoon celebration of games and music for everyone in the family. There’s also free hot chocolate and apple cider.
Fireworks in PoCo: There will be a professional fireworks display at the Maple Creek Middle School. The fun starts at 11:15 p.m. and the fireworks will be at midnight.
Chilliwack
Skate in Chilliwack: There’s a New Year’s skate at Chilliwack Twin Rinks on January 1st from noon to 4 p.m.
