VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You soon won’t be able to fill up your car at a gas station in Downtown Vancouver, because there won’t be any.
One week after the sale of a Chevron on West Georgia Street, the last gas station on the peninsula — an Esso station at Burrard and Davie Streets — is on the market.
President and CEO of the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association Charles Gauthier says it raises concerns about certain types of businesses disappearing. “The affordability issues is coming into play for types of businesses and obviously the lure of being able to sell the property for redevelopment and particular feature is a concern.”
Gauthier adds while people who live on the Lower Mainland may just need to plan better to make sure they have a full tank, tourists may end up in a bind, not knowing where to find other stations in the city. “I’m more concerned about visitors to the city that have come from abroad using their own car, or even a rental car, and not being familiar with where the gas stations and if they don’t have GPS.”
The Chevron station on West Georgia Street was sold last fall.
