Highway 1 reopens following serious crash

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – Highway 1 has reopened after being shut down in one direction for several hours following a serious crash that sent four people to hospital with minor injuries.

Police responded to a serious crash just after 9:30 this morning, which forced the closure of the highway going westbound between 232nd St and 264th St.

Mounties have confirmed that three semi-trucks carrying various types of equipment, as well as one large commercial truck and a van were involved.

“It’s an absolute mess. There are three big rigs, all of them in various states of ruin. The worst one being one carrying wooden pallets. The front end of the cab is completely crushed. The Langley Township Fire Department has watered down the scene. It will be sometime before they will be able to clean up this mess.”

Meanwhile, the RCMP report they were called to another crash shortly after the first, just 200 metres west of 264th on Highway 1.

It’s unclear whether these two incidents are related, and two cars were involved in the second crash.

Three people have been taken to hospital as a result of that accident, with minor injuries.

Investigators have not yet determined a cause for either incident, but speed and alcohol are not believed to be involved.
