Massive, free outdoor ice rink opens at North Vancouver Shipyards

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — It’s the best of both worlds for Vancouver-area ice skaters–an outdoor rink with a retractable roof so the rain can’t ruin your plans.
The Shipyards Skate Plaza is now open in North Vancouver boasting a 20,000 square foot skate surface, making it the largest in the region.
Admission is free and it can accommodate up to 300 people.
Get your on! The region’s largest outdoor ice skating plaza can now be found at Shipyards Commons! Rentals are available but if you bring your own skates it’s completely FREE!

The rink is open from noon until 7:00 p.m. every day except Christmas.
Helmets are mandatory for kids under 12, but the facility provides them at no-charge.
Skates rental is $7 for adults and $5 for children.
The Robson Square Ice Rink and Plaza in Vancouver is the only option in the area for those who want to skate for free outdoors on Christmas Day. It’s open from noon until 5 p.m.

- Starlight Skating Rink, Harrison Hot Springs
- Whistler Olympic Plaza, Whistler
- Tssawwassen Springs, Tssawwassen
Indoor skating is available at community centres in most cities for a small fee.
