VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Day parole has been extended another six months for Kelly Ellard, the woman convicted of killing Victoria-area teen Reena Virk in 1997.
Ellard, who now goes by Kerry Marie Sim, must honour five conditions which include staying away from drugs, alcohol and certain people who may be a bad influence.
She must also continue treatment for substance abuse and “emotions management,” but she’s no longer living in a halfway house.
Since 2005, she’s been serving a life sentence for the second-degree murder of 14-year-old Virk.
Ellard was first granted day parole in 2017 –shortly after the birth of her first child.
She recently gave birth to another child.
Records show the father of both children has completed his federal prison term for undisclosed crimes and is now working to support their family.
