The pier fire broke out at night last month and burned through the giant “W” statue, volleyball courts, and beachfront lounging area.
The art installation had been a beloved landmark to the city, but despite crews’ attempts to salvage the piece, the City of New Westminster could not be preserved safely.
The New Westminster Police Department’s Major Crime Unit was been called to assist in the investigation.
The timber wharf section at the eastern end of the park sustained significant damage and parts had to be removed.
