TransLink marking Remembrance Day with special message on buses, SkyTrain

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Another sign is popping up on buses around Metro Vancouver, a tribute to Canada’s veterans as we approach Remembrance Day.
“Lest We Forget” is now in rotation on buses and SkyTrains across the Lower Mainland in addition to “Masks Mandatory”.
Gabrielle Price with TransLink says the messaging has been displayed since 2017.
“It really started so that we could continually remind our passengers and customers that we need to pay our respects to our veterans on November 11th.”

She adds if you’re on a bus this Remembrance Day, don’t be surprised if it pulls over at 11:11 in the morning for a moment of silence.
“Not only are our drivers allowed to wear poppies, we really strongly encourage them to do so,” she says. “Additionally, all of our buses and operators observe a moment of silence, so all our buses are pulled over to the side of the road and are turned off. For that minute we pay our respects to our veterans who fought for our freedom.”

Price says there are about 10 messages that are used throughout the year, to mark various holidays and occasions.
“When we are trying to communicate SkyTrain delays or Amber Alerts, “Sorry Bus Full” is another message. Other supporting messages like “Happy Holidays” and supporting Pride as well with a slogan like “Ride with Pride”.
She adds veterans ride free on Remembrance Day, from 8 in the morning, until 6 at night.
