Vancouver stabbing leaves 72-year-old man dead

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A 72-year-old man has died and a 27-year-old suspect is in custody after a stabbing in the area of 12th Avenue and Kingsway.

It happened on Tuesday at the Biltmore Hotel. Investigators say the stabbing was the result of an “altercation” between two people “with no relationship.”

First responders were called to the hotel just after 2:30 p.m. for reports of a serious assault.

When they arrived, the victim — Alex Gortmaker — was found with serious injuries. Despite their efforts, first responders were not able to revive him.

The suspect was arrested Tuesday night.
