Fatal Gastown stabbing marks first homicide of 2021 in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Vancouver Police are investigating the first homicide of the new year which took place in Gastown Sunday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m. police say they were called to a single-room occupancy building at the Gastown Hotel and discovered two people from Vancouver who had been stabbed.

A 40-year-old died at the scene and a 28-year-old was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have arrested a 48-year-old Vancouver man near the scene and he remains in custody.
