RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – Mounties in Richmond gave out more than $17,000 in fines over the weekend to people at two separate locations hosting karaoke events and breaking COVID-19 health orders.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday officers found several violations of public health orders at a karaoke bar near Aberdeen Square mall. Thirty-four staff and patrons were fined $230 each while a manager was handed a ticket of $2,300.

The next day around 2 a.m. officers overheard singing karaoke and discovered what seemed to be an “unlicensed drinking establishment” at a commercial space along Shell Road. Twenty-one people received $230 fines each and the organizer was fined $2,300.

“Richmond RCMP is committed to promoting safety in our community, and we will continue to enforce the regulations aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19,” says Cpl. Ian Henderson of the Richmond RCMP. “It’s quite clear that some people are still not getting the message. People who continue to engage in this type of reckless, irresponsible behaviour will be held to account.”

Police are determining if any further business or liquor-related charges apply in both instances.

Anyone who learns of any parties or large gatherings in Richmond is asked to call the RCMP at 604-278-1212. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
