B.C. records 194 COVID-19 cases, Fraser Health remains hot spot

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – B.C. is continuing to keep COVID-19 infections relatively low, recording 194 new cases in the past day.

There are 246 COVID patients in the hospital, 70 of whom are in the ICU. Those figures are down from 254 and 80, respectively, on Tuesday.

There have been four more COVID-related deaths, for a total of 1,707 since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 63 per cent were in the Fraser Health region and just 17 per cent were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region.

In the past day, 61,952 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered. Of the total 3,365,286 doses given since the vaccine programs began, 208,145 were second doses.

On Tuesday, B.C. recorded 184 infections, the lowest figure seen in seven months. Around this time last month, the province was recording more than 600 cases per day.

COVID-19 restrictions in B.C. could start easing as early as June 15. If cases and hospitalizations keep going down and the number of people getting vaccinations continue to rise, life could return to near-normal by September.
