Two sexual assaults in three days in Surrey’s Guildford area

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — The Surrey RCMP’s Special Victim Unit have been called after two sexual assaults in just three days in the Guildford area.

On July 9, a woman was walking near Hawthorne Park on 104 Ave. and 142 St. when she met a stranger just before 10 p.m.

RCMP say she went with the man into the park, where he sexually assaulted her. She was able to fight off her attacker and ran away. Her physical injuries were non-life threatening.

A police dog was brought in, but Mounties were not able to find the suspect.

He is described as about 6’2” tall, weighing 180lbs with a muscular build. He’s believed to be Black and have short messy dreadlocks. He was wearing black pants and a black t-shirt at the time of the attack.

Investigators are also looking to speak with two witnesses who were in the area at the time of the assault. Mounties say a man and a woman were at the entrance to the park, but left before speaking with officers.

Another assault happened on July 12. Surrey RCMP say a teenaged girl was walking in Tynehead Park on 168 St. and 96 Ave. just after midnight when she was pushed from behind and sexually assaulted. The suspect  ran away and the victim was able to leave the area to get help.

Her physical injuries are not life-threatening.

The man is described as Black, about 6’1” tall with a muscular build and stubble on his face. He was wearing a bright red hoodie, black pants, and red shoes.

RCMP say there is no evidence at this time to link these two assaults.

“Both of these people have been emotionally impacted by these attacks,” says Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Lyndsay O’Ruairc.

“We have provided referrals to Victim Services to both of them, and our investigative team is working very hard to identify and locate the people responsible for these sexual assaults.”

Anyone with dash-cam video from the area of 168 St. and 96 Ave. between on July 11 and 12 as well as the area of 104 Ave to 142 street on July 9 is urged to contact RCMP at 604-599-0502.
