A 25-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a vehicle in Port Coquitlam Tuesday morning.
The incident took place around 7 a.m. near Shaughnessy Street and Lobb Avenue.
The pedestrian was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Mounties say speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors, adding it was dark and raining hard at the time. The driver stayed on the scene and was cooperative.
Sgt. Mark McCutcheon is advising pedestrians to be extra cautious this time of year
“It’s the week after the clocks went back and it’s rainy and dark and it’s really hard to see pedestrians out there walking,” he says.
“Take extra special care in crossing the roads. Make sure that the cars or trucks or any vehicle stops, and don’t assume that the car can stop. For the drivers, just be aware there are lots of pedestrians out there and to have a look around and make sure that it’s safe where you’re driving.”
The criminal collision investigative team has been called.
