Pedestrian hit, killed in Vancouver

A man is dead after he was hit by a car in East Vancouver Saturday night.
Police say the 59-year-old was crossing Kingsway near St. Catherines Street at about 7 p.m. when he was hit by a westbound vehicle. There is no marked crosswalk at that intersection.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The driver of the car involved in the collision stayed at the scene. Police don’t believe they were speeding or under the influence of alcohol at the time. A cause of the collision has not yet been determined.

This is the city’s ninth pedestrian fatality of the year.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this article stated this was the 18th pedestrian fatality of 2021. The VPD has issued a correction, stating while there have been 18 collision-related fatalities, this is the ninth in which a pedestrian died.
