A woman from Tsawassen who went missing earlier this week was found dead by the Delta Police Investigative Team on Saturday.
Davina McKaig was 49 years old.
“We wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Davina’s loved ones and friends,” says Sgt. James Sandberg, spokesperson for Delta Police. “There has been an outpouring of concern for Davina and many residents of Tsawwassen have participated in searches in their yards and outbuildings to assist in locating her. For this assistance, we thank you.”
McKaig was last seen in the central Tsawwassen area east of 56 Street around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 8.
The BC Coroner Service is on the case, and the investigation is ongoing.
When Delta Police spoke to CityNews Vancouver on Saturday afternoon, they could not divulge the cause of death, but stressed they don’t believe there’s any risk to public safety.

“BC Coroner’s Service is still investigating, so we’re not prepared yet to say whether it is suspicious or not, and once we have that information from the Coroner Service we will have an update,” says Sandberg.
“The reason that it is unclear is out of respect for the public and for the family. The Coroner did not do an examination on-scene. They decided to do it at another location because of the number of people that were out helping in a public search of their own. It’s more about trying to protect privacy and protect the people from seeing anything that they don’t really need to see.”
Sandberg wasn’t sure when that update will come.

He adds it’s been a hard week for Delta, with flooding, the pandemic, and sad news like the death of McKaig. He encourages anyone who’s struggling to reach out and ask for support through the City’s website.
Police are fortunate to have internal support to get them through difficult times, in line with their ongoing community safety and wellness plan, says Sandberg.
“Looking after our people is paramount, and so we have those resources in place and we’ll be using them.”
