The Vancouver Canucks are welcoming a new Vice-President Operations, Stan Smyl.
Announced by President, Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford on Dec. 16, Smyl was chosen after years of work with the Canucks. He started in 1978, and has been an executive, coach, and player since that time.
“Stan has been a foundational piece of this team for decades, and we are pleased that he will be taking on this role,” said Rutherford.
He has held several positions in the front office since 2005, acting as Director of Player Development and Senior Advisor to the General Manager.

Daniel and Henrik Sedin will continue to advise the general manager — a role Rutherford is also filling for now — and act as part of the leadership team.
“In addition, Henrik, Daniel, and Ryan are key parts of our leadership team. We still have some additional roles to fill, but confirming these positions today is a big step for us.”
Smyl will collaborate with Rutherford to oversee all hockey operations matters, such as player personnel decisions and internal operations.
