Vancouver Police are investigating after a 25-year-old man was stabbed early Saturday morning.
According to police, the man was critically injured in the Granville Entertainment District.
“VPD deployed additional officers in the downtown core Friday night, as capacity limits were lifted at bars and restaurants throughout the province,” said Sgt. Steve Addison. “Large crowds began entering the downtown core in the early evening, with some lining up early at nightclubs and hundreds wandering the entertainment areas.”
Police say the large crowds led to many conflicts throughout Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Shortly before 2 a.m., officers intervened in the stabbing near Smithe and Granville Street, where the man was given first aid and taken away in an ambulance.
A 21-year-old man was arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
The victim is expected to survive.
Vancouver police say they will continue to deploy additional officers to manage crowds throughout the long weekend.
