Ontario police watchdog investigating VPD actions in Ottawa

Editor’s note: The SIU has corrected the press release, noting the incident where a woman was reportedly injured by a Toronto Police Service horse occurred on Friday. The incident between VPD and protestors occurred on Saturday.
The Special Investigations Unit is investigating a Toronto Police Service officer and Vancouver Police Department officers after two incidents that reportedly left one woman injured.
In a release, the SIU reports at approximately 7:18 p.m. Saturday, Vancouver police officers discharged Anti-Riot Weapon Enfields, also known as less-lethal firearms, on individuals around Sparks St. and Bank St.
Although no injuries related to the incident have been reported as of now, the SIU is urging anyone who was hit by a projectile to get in touch with the unit.
CityNews contacted the VPD however, they refused to comment.

On Friday evening, the SIU says there was an “interaction” between a 49-year-old woman and a Toronto Police Service officer on a horse.
The woman reported a serious injury resulting from the interaction.
The incident allegedly happened on Rideau Street and Mackenzie Avenue.
According to the SIU, the injury is unrelated to the false rumour of a woman being trampled to death by a police horse on Friday.
The investigation comes after police moved in to clear out protestors over the weekend, arresting 191 people and towing 57 vehicles.
The unit says they have assigned six investigators and two forensic investigators to the incidents.
