BC SPCA investigating Vancouver Aquarium, Greater Vancouver Zoo over complaint

The Vancouver Humane Society has sent a complaint to the BC SPCA over what it is calling animal cruelty at the Vancouver Aquarium and the Greater Vancouver Zoo.
A spokesperson for the BC SPCA confirmed to CityNews that it investigates all complaints, and will be following up. Few other details were provided.
The Vancouver Humane Society says it supplied the SPCA with footage allegedly taken over a six-year period.
The society alleges the footage shows “animals in small, barren enclosures and animals exhibiting abnormal behaviours” at the two facilities.
The society has several petitions on its website against animals in captivity, including petting zoos, and has issued complaints in the past over animal welfare concerns.
The aquarium says it is working with the SPCA to arrange a walkthrough of its facilities.
The Greater Vancouver Zoo says it is aware of an “opinion piece” regarding the Aldergrove attraction.
“The Greater Vancouver Zoo takes the health and welfare of animals very seriously. As a CAZA and WAZA accredited facility we meet and exceed all provincial and federal requirements,” a statement sent to CityNews said.
