Track issue on SkyTrain between Scott Road, Columbia stations resolved

SkyTrain service on the Expo Line between Surrey’s Scott Road station and New Westminster’s Columbia station has resumed.

TransLink says a track issue caused the interruption to service which was in effect throughout Tuesday’s morning and evening commutes, leading to long delays for transit users.

Just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night, TransLink said service had resumed, but anyone travelling by train was warned they may notice some delays as trains returned to regular frequencies.

The problem started Monday night, and TransLink said crews had to wait until daylight to start work on fixing it, for safety reasons.

Tina Lovgreen with TransLink said the track issue happened just before 8 p.m. Monday.

“A failed switch caused a track issue which led to a SkyTrain being partially dislodged from the tracks,” she explained.

“The system alerted SkyTrain crews to the issue immediately and within 10 minutes, passengers were safely removed from the train and alternate service was put in place. There were no reports of injuries to customers.”

Service on the Millennium Line, Canada Line, and Production Way segment of the Expo Line were unaffected.
