North America’s flagship dragon boat festival returns after two-year hiatus

The Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival returns to the waters of Vancouver’s False Creek this month for the first time since the pandemic.

Organizers held a show-and-tell Thursday to show off some of this year’s boats.

City Councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung was among the dignitaries at the announcement, who emphasized the work by the nine artists resulted in ” beautiful boats.”

“I really want to note that the dragon boat is not just a sport festival, but it is also a cultural festival and it bridges sport, culture and communities and brings people together,” she said.

Vancouver Park Board Chair Stuart McKinnon added he is excited to see the racers back in the water.

“This year’s festival promises to be a truly spectacular occasion and a wonderful opportunity for our diverse communities to come together and reconnect.”

The festival is on from June 24 to 26. Admission is free.
