Many Vancouver Canucks players are back in town and training camp is right around the corner.

After finishing last season out of the playoffs, the team is looking to make a push to return to the post-season.

Speaking to Sportsnet 650 Wednesday morning, head coach Bruce Boudreau said he’s going to run a tough camp.

“I think it’s going to be a lot of hard work. I think it’s going to be competitive,” he said.

“Most of the stuff I do is game-situational stuff. We want to see the compete level right off from the start.”

Boudreau says he’s excited to get back to work and to continue on the success the team saw under him last year.

“It was electric [last year],” he explained. “I never noticed as much as a visitor, last year even though we were in the playoff race, but in a playoff position, how great the fans were.”

He says the fans are ready to see the team take the next step and tip their toes back into the playoffs.

“All they want to do is see success and hard work and that’s hopefully what we’re going to give them this year,” said Boudreau.

He says last year was a great learning experience and he hopes that continues this year.

“It was really fun coming into the rink every night and hopefully that will continue and hopefully we make it fun for the fans to watch and hopefully they realize that we’re giving out all and they appreciate that.”

The Canucks had a record of 9-15-2 when Travis Green was fired from his position as head coach.

The team responded under Boudreau, putting up a record of 32-15-10, yet still missing the last wild-card spot in the playoffs by five points.

This was the sixth time out of the last seven seasons the team has missed the playoffs.

Pre-season action for the Canucks gets underway later this month.
