Two PNE riot suspects identified: Vancouver police

Two of 10 suspects sought by Vancouver police in connection with a riot at the PNE in September have been arrested.

The VPD says it’s received hundreds of tips after asking the public for help identifying several people in its investigation.

Police say the riot, which started after the last-minute cancellation of BreakOut Festival headliner Lil Baby, resulted in more than $300,000 in damages.

“Investigators are going through hundreds of tips and expect to identify further suspects soon,” the VPD said in a tweet Friday, urging anyone who was involved to come forward.

Police are still looking to identify eight other people in connection with the riot.

Images and videos shared online after the concert was cancelled shows attendees channeling their disappointment into destruction, with garbage bins being flipped over, and structures being brought down. As tents were flipped over, some social media users said concert-goers even began stealing alcohol.

Witnesses have said the scene turned violent for some.

While the VPD is looking for several suspects, officers have already made several arrests related to the “breach of peace.”

Additional suspects and their photos will be released as the investigation continues, Insp. Dale Weidman, the officer in charge of VPD’s Major Crime Section, previously said.

“Every single one of these photos could represent a classmate, a friend, neighbour, or a family member. If you recognize one of these people, we ask you to visit vpd.ca/top-10 and use our online form to submit a tip. If you’re one of the people in these photos, or you’re worried that embarrassing pictures of you could be released in the future, it’s not too late to come forward.”
