Metro Vancouver doctor faces new charge of sexual assault

A Metro Vancouver doctor is facing another charge of sexual assault, police say, after multiple investigations spanned two cities.
The Delta Police Department (DPD) says an initial investigation started in August of 2020, after a woman reported that she was allegedly assaulted by a doctor practicing in that city.
In 2021, one charge of sexual assault was recommended by police, but the charge was not approved by Crown counsel.
Police say after the investigation ended, the doctor moved his practice to Surrey and continued working.
In July of 2022, the DPD says the Surrey RCMP received a complaint about the same doctor, alleging that a woman had been assaulted during a physical exam, prompting another investigation.

Shortly after, the Surrey RCMP announced that Olumuyiwa Bamgbade had been charged with one count of sexual assault.
After the announcement of this charge, the DPD says two new complaints of sexual assault were reported against the doctor.
Out of the two, police say officers were able to find enough information in one case dating back to 2019 to recommend charges.

On March 16, the DPD says Bamgbade was charged with an additional count of sexual assault. He is set to appear in court Monday in relation to the Surrey RCMP charge, with police adding he “will address the new charge” during his appearance.
Police are directing anyone with questions about Bamgbade’s medical practice to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
