Two backcountry skiers enjoying the sunshine and late-season snow got lost on Mt Seymour late Thursday and had to be rescued.
Even though the resort is closed, they climbed to the top of the resort’s Brockton Chair, according to North Shore Rescue.
Rescuer Stan Sauvdat says the group ended up getting off track as they skied down.
“Inadvertently, they managed to get themselves out of bounds … and got a little caught in the dark without headlamps or the proper gear, and they became fairly frightened and wanted help as soon as possible,” he told CityNews.

Sauvdat says the two had only planned for an easy day trip on the mountain and are lucky to be unharmed when considering the avalanche risk.
“One has to be very cautious. You have to check the conditions. You have to understand the conditions. You have to understand how to navigate. There are so many skills to do it safely, and yes, the avalanche conditions were considerable yesterday (Thursday),” he said.
He adds crews were able to ping their cellphones and locate the skiers, getting them to safety after midnight Friday.
