Coquitlam motorcycle crash leaves pedestrian dead

A motorcycle crash in Coquitlam over the weekend has left an elderly person dead.

The Coquitlam RCMP says an 83-year-old was crossing the street at Clarke Road and Smith Avenue when they were hit around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The bike was headed west on Clarke Road when it collided with the pedestrian, who was taken to the hospital but did not survive their injuries.

The motorcyclist stayed at the scene and was cooperating with police, investigators say.

The RCMP is now looking to speak with witnesses.

“If you witnessed this incident and have not spoken to police, our investigators would like to speak with you,” said Corp. Alexa Hodgins. “If you have dash cam, cellphone or any video of the area, please reach out to the Coquitlam RCMP to speak with police.”
