East Vancouver shooting leaves one person hurt: police

Police in Vancouver say a woman is recovering after she was shot in the city’s Strathcona neighbourhood Wednesday evening.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, officers were called to Vernon Drive and East 2nd Street just after 7 p.m. for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, officers say a 28-year-old woman was found with a gunshot wound.

The woman was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, police add.

Investigators say a suspect in his 50s left the area after the shooting but was found and arrested near Trout Lake just before 10 p.m.

The suspect remains in custody, with police saying “a number of firearms charges” are expected to be laid.
