Two people are facing theft charges after Mounties say a pair of suspects nabbed a TV from a local store, placed it on top of a car, and drove away while trying to hold it down with their arms.
According to the Nanaimo RCMP, the 75-in television was taken from a Walmart in the Woodgrove Centre around 6:45 p.m. on June 8.
Police say officers had received reports of a man and woman carrying a large box out of the store.
“The suspects then shuffled to their vehicle, placed the box on the roof of their vehicle, and drove off. The attending officer noted that the box had simply been dropped on the roof of the vehicle, and was held in place by the driver reaching up with his left hand, and the passenger’s outstretched right hand,” a news release reads.
Three hours later, police say the suspects were spotted at a local gas station and were arrested.
Mounties note a 48-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman are facing charges of theft under $5,000.
However, only parts of a TV were found in the trunk of the suspects’ vehicle.
They are set to appear in court in September.
