Pattullo Bridge to close Thursday night

The Pattullo Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic in both directions Thursday night into Friday as part of replacement project work.
The closure will be in effect between 10 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday. TransLink says the bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.
The transit authority says the work will see the temporary pedestrian bridge next to the Bridge Connector in New Westminster removed, as will a sign over King George Boulevard near the crossing in Surrey.
“Signage will indicate all traffic pattern changes and traffic control personnel will be on-site to direct traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists,” an email from TransLink explains.

Drivers can take the Port Mann and Alex Fraser bridges as alternate routes. TransLink says buses, including the N19 NightBus, will be rerouted over the Alex Fraser and Queensborough bridges between New Westminster and Scott Road stations, with customers told to add up to 30 minutes of travel time.
The Pattullo Bridge replacement is slated to open in 2024. The province says the existing bridge will remain open until the new crossing is operational. Once that happens, the old bridge is expected to be removed.
The new bridge is set to include wider lanes, a centre median barrier, dedicated pedestrian and cycling lanes, and “better connections to, from, and near” the crossing.
