Mounties in Nanaimo say two men have been arrested in connection with a Saturday night fire at a downtown business.
The Nanaimo RCMP says the fire was reported just before 8 p.m. when an officer on patrol saw the blaze on the 400 block of Wentworth Street and reported it to fire crews.
“The fire was extinguished but not before causing extensive damage,” reads a release from the RCMP.
Police say no one was in the building at the time of the fire and no surrounding buildings were affected.
Mounties explain that they were able to find and arrest the two men not far from the fire “based on information obtained.”
They will remain in police custody until they appear in court on Tuesday, August 22.
Police say the building has been secured and will remain closed off until fire inspectors can come in and take a look at the extent of the damage.
Mounties say the incident is still under investigation, and ask anyone with any information to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
