1 arrested after ‘violent assault’ in New Westminster: police

Police say one person has been arrested after a woman in New Westminster was “violently assaulted” inside a suite on Friday.

According to the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD), a woman with “numerous lacerations” got the attention of an officer on Royal Avenue at around 7 a.m. and told them she had been assaulted at a suite on Agnes Street.

Due to the extent of her injuries, the woman was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services.

The NWPD says multiple officers went to a building identified by the victim and arrested a suspect within “short order.”

Police say the NWPD Major Crime Unit is investigating the relationship between the victim and suspect, and ask any witnesses who have yet to give a statement to call investigators at 604-529-2430.

The NWPD adds that the incident appears to be an isolated one — presenting no increased risk to the public.
