Drowning victim’s body found in Sproat Lake, says Port Alberni RCMP

The body of a 17-year-old boy has been found after the canoe he was in capsized near Port Alberni, Mounties say.

Police say a group of three teenagers was canoeing on Sproat Lake Saturday when their canoe sank.

Two 16-year-olds managed to tread water before being rescued, but the third member was nowhere to be found.

Police say at 5 p.m. today, the boy’s body was found submerged in 120 feet of water from where he was last seen.

They add the boy’s family has been notified and his death is not considered suspicious.
