Premier announces new baby Eby expected in June

Premier David Eby announced Saturday that he and his wife are expecting their third child in the middle of 2024.

Eby made the announcement at the NDP Convention happening in Victoria, B.C. on Saturday and Sunday.

“I couldn’t be happier than to be surrounded by family and 700 of our closest friends to announce that Cailey and I are expecting our third child in June,” Eby wrote on X Saturday afternoon.

The weekend was set aside by the party to debate policy and strategy ahead of next year’s provincial election.

Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is expected to speak to delegates on Sunday.

Party officials said the weekend gathering marks the first in-person convention since 2019, and the first under Eby. He took over as party leader from former premier John Horgan last November. Eby’s first year as premier saw the NDP introduce housing policy initiatives, public safety reforms, and cost-of-living assistance measures.

The next B.C. election is scheduled for fall 2024.
