‘High-risk sexual offender’ re-arrested in Vancouver: VPD

Police in Vancouver say a high-risk sex offender has been re-arrested, after a public warning about his presence in the community was issued last week.
Skylar Pelletier was arrested on Feb. 29 in downtown Vancouver on a Canada-wide warrant, police say.
Officers say the warrant was issued for “protection of society” and reference a section of Canada’s Corrections and Conditional Release Act.
In the specific section referenced, the act states when an offender breaches a condition of their parole or statuary release, or a designated official believes it’s necessary to suspend the offender’s parole or release to prevent a breach, the offender may: have their parole or statuary release suspended, be apprehended or be reentered into custody.
Vancouver police issued a notice to the public on Feb. 26, saying Pelletier had been released from custody and would be living in Vancouver.
At the time, officers said Pelletier posed “a risk of significant harm to women in the community.” They also listed the numerous conditions Pelletier had to comply with.
Police said he was serving a five-year supervision order for convictions of sexual assault, assault and breaking and entering.
Now, Pelletier is in custody, pending review by the Parole Board of Canada.
